What is the European Solidarity Corps (ESC)?

The European Solidarity Corps (ESC) is a European Union initiative that offers young people the opportunity to volunteer or work on projects that benefit communities and people across Europe. Participation in ESC volunteering is free of charge.

How long is the volunteering project?

The project is an individual volunteering activity lasting 59 days.

Where does the project take place?

The project takes place in Prilep, North Macedonia, with Youth Council Prilep as the host organisation. Volunteers will stay in a shared apartment located within approximately 1 km of the city centre and the organisation’s office. Accommodation and utilities are covered by the host organisation.

The opportunity is aimed at young people aged 18–30, preferably young people with fewer opportunities. Candidates should be motivated to participate in volunteering activities, interested in contributing to the community and open to living and learning in a different cultural environment. Previous extensive ESC volunteering experience is not required.

Who can apply?
What kind of activities will I do?

Yes. Volunteers stay in a shared apartment located within approximately 1 km of the city centre and the organisation’s office. The host organisation covers the rent and utilities.

Is accommodation provided?

Volunteers may participate in radio and communication activities, environmental workshops, youth activities, intercultural events, community events and the organisation’s social media and website development. They may also participate in meetings, promotional activities and visits to other organisations and institutions. The detailed activity plan will be developed together with the volunteers and the host organisation.

Is financial support provided?

Yes. Volunteers receive €4 per day in pocket money and €150 per month for food. The host organisation also covers round-trip travel costs up to €309, according to the conditions specified in the Information Pack.

Will I receive training and support?

Yes. Volunteers receive on-arrival and mid-term training, as well as workshops organised by the host organisation, stakeholders and volunteers. They also receive supervision, regular meetings with the organisation and support from a mentor outside the organisation.
